At least 60 students have completed a three months vocational education training including 51 women and 9 men on course of computer, tailoring, catering & Hotel management and hair dressing.
“But, today we no longer called them learners, they are graduates since they have already been despatched and given their certificates”, he said.
Through our collaboration and support from the ministry of education and ministry of labour and public service. We enrolled about 63 from the initial stage and then 3 dropped out. But, 60 managed to reach the finishing and those are the one we graduated.
” Basically, you can see from the life skills, those who want to be more resilient are women in this particular program which is what we want to encourage “, he said.
” We aspire to build a society that is resilient. A society that is able to generate their own income in order to improve their living standard and also to help their families and their households, improve their living standard and enroll their children and do many more of other things that will alleviate them from poverty “.
He said after DARD finished with training Oxfam provide immediate start up kit that will enable the graduates to start rolling out the knowledge and skills in the market
” Like four traits that we supported, all of them received their start up kit”, he. ” One of the traits is information technology ( IT) they have been provided with their kits that’s computer, printer, carriage including other stationeries to start their work.
The other trait is catering and hospitality which is hotel management and we procured number of start up kit which will enable them including foot items that will make them start with much challenge.
The other third trait is tailoring, and we have procured tailoring machines including other materials that we normally use for service of the machine and also other items that will make this individuals start businesses without much challenge.
The director general of the ministry of general education and instructions, Gabriel Maluac Yak said today we are conducting a training of 60 trainees that were trained by DARD with facilitation from Oxfam being guided by the ministry of education together with ministry of labour and human resources development.
He said they have been in consultation with the national government on how to bring up technical vocational training to it existence and as a result we have trained 60 people with different traits of computer, catering and hospitality, hairdressing and other related fields.
He said it is an opportunity for the South Sudanese particularly the people of Lakes State to have this training which will change livelihood of people through the skills they have acquired.
” As such, we are thankful to the people of Lakes State and State government for providing a peaceful environment and safety of the learners from the insecurity that has been in the few days.
He said it is an opportunity to thank government and donors for taking this initiative to bring people that we have graduated today.
He said this is also an opportunity to people of South Sudan that Lakes State is a conducive place for any training and urges donors to train more people such that so people can become self reliance instead of depending on other people.
He calls on the government of South Sudan and the donors to support vocational training in regard to such training.
Martha Lela, Hair dressing trained said she is happy today for the training organized for us by TVET in Rumbek.
“The TVET organized this training on tailoring for women, and we are very happy about it “, she said.
Another on tailoring beneficiary of TVET vocal skills training, Ana Aluet Makur said that they have been trained on tailoring for 3 months and that they have received all the start up kits.
She said she is very happy to acquire knowledge and skills on tailoring machines and promised that she will make use of the knowledge and skills that she has acquired from the training in Rumbek market when she gets a space there.
Abraham Machok , a beneficiary trained on catering &. hotel mangement said that he has been trained in this TVET center for 3 months and that they are happy for the graduation organized for them today.
He said he got knowledge and skills and that he is very happy to Oxfam and now ones I am out from here I will start my own business with my skills and I know my life will change.
He urges people to join the training if they have that hope in life to be do something for them if this project continues.
