The Jonglei State Ministry of Land, Housing and Public Utilities has completed the installation of five hundred and eighty solar panels at Bor water treatment plant.
The Minister of Land Housing and Public Utilities Isaac Mamer Ruk, said that the solar panels will power the water treatment facility amidst increase cost of fuel in the Country.
‘’We have installed 580 solar panels because in the project plan we were having a plan to use generators and solar power in case during the rainy season the station will use generators and during dry season solar power will be used.’’ He stated.
‘’We are now left with only fixing the date for handing over of the modern water treatment facility to the state governmentand It’s going to be attended by high profile diplomats from the Kingdom of Netherland from the Embassy in Juba, national government official and the state governor.’’ He mentioned.
He pointed out that the provision of clean water by Bor water treatment plant has reduced typhoid cases among the people in the state’s capital, Bor.
Minister Ruk applauded the donors, the national and state leadership for their contribution during the establishment of the water treatment plant.
Ruk added: ‘’The policy of the ministry of housing, land and public utilities is to make sure that the citizens of Jonglei state will have access to clean drinking water even in some of counties headquarters we have constructed some water point and drilled boreholes in northern part of the state.’’
Ruk added that his ministry is available to assist on issues concerning land documents which is one of the vital requirement needed to get connected to the pipe water.
Engineer John Jurkuch Yaak, the area Manager of Bor Urban Water Cooperation said that about five hundred customers have been connected and have access to clean water.
He called on residents willing to get connected to visit the station to kick off with the procedures.
” If you want to get connected to the water, come to the manager’s office at the station with your land document as the first requirement. You will be asked where your house is and if it is in area where the pipeline has reached then we will assign someone to go and survey where the pipe. From there you can pay 82,000 SSP as registration fee and then you will be directed to buy some items from the market.” He said.
Engineer Jurkuch added: ” We have five categories of water customers. First is the kiosks which are 28, households, institutions like schools which are 17, government offices and they are 4, Churches and are 4, hotels and they are 10 and one tanker truck filling station.”
Last year, Urban Water Cooperation Bor branch installed pipeline as part of its mission to connect Bor Town to clean water.
The establishment of Bor modern water treatment facility came as a result generous donations from Kingdom of Netherland, UNMISS, South Korea, and UNICEF as the implementing partner.
