Security forces in Tonj, Warrap State have arrested a woman alongside others for being illegally in possession of rounds of ammunitions.
Over the weekend authorities reported the seizure of a cache mixed with a sack of sorghum along Wau-Tonj road at Alol petrol station by security forces.
The commissioner of Tonj South County, John Ayitiak Warwien commented security organs for the thorough search and reiterated government optimism to fight crimes in the county.
Ayitiak warned criminals and instigators of conflict to cease causing public havoc. He added that, the suspects under police custody in Tonj town are awaiting further investigations and trial.
On the separate note, the county authority has arrested two people believe to be members of gangs groups.
According to the office of the commissioner, gangs’ activities have resulted to number of rape cases, robbery and killings at night exposing the public to constant fear in the town.
The government vowed to crackdown gangs related activities across the county.
Tonj South County has been hit by communal conflicts alleged to be triggered and incited by intellectuals.
At least for the last two weeks, the county has experienced wave of stability following peace tour by the governor of Warrap state.
Tonj South County is among the leading counties characterized by communal violence, destruction of properties and unknown gunman killings.
Despite efforts of the government to restore stability in the county, it has been met by resistance to comply with law and order.
The transportation of ammunitions is alarming at the borders.
In June , 5th 2025, the president Salva Kiir declared a six months state of emergency affecting two states of Warrap state and Unity state due to deteriorating violence in the two states.
In Warrap state, the government has adopted an inclusive approach of sensitizing communities on the consequences of state of emergency.
