Abyei’s Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare has partnered with UN Police to strengthen cooking training facilities in the area.
According to a statement, the enhancement of culinary training facilities which is aimed at equipping women, men and persons with disabilities with practical skills to improve their livelihoods.
This was discussed during a strategic meeting with UN Police Officers on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025.
“The enhancement of culinary training is not just about skills; it is about dignity, empowerment, and giving our people the tools to secure a better future,” stated Aluel Minyeil Rou, Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare.
“By investing in these programs, we are investing in the livelihoods of women, men, and persons with disabilities,” Minister Rou added.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry, seeks to transform existing training centers into hubs of opportunity, offering participants hands-on instruction in food preparation, hygiene, and small business management.
UN Police Officers pledged their active support, committing resources and logistical assistance to ensure the program reaches those most in need.
Minister Rou commended the Ministry staff for initiating the program, calling it a model of how gender equality and social protection can be advanced in practice.
She also reaffirmed the Ministry’s oversight role in managing the gender-based violence desk at the police station, which ensures survivors receive the necessary protection and support.
Beyond the training initiative, the Minister noted that preparations are underway for International Girls’ Day, which will spotlight the importance of girls’ rights and empowerment.
Additionally, the Minister revealed that a child protection program is being formulated to extend assistance to neglected children and safeguard their wellbeing.
The dialogue between the Ministry and UN Police underscored a shared commitment to tackling systemic challenges through collaborative action.
“This partnership with UN Police is proof that when institutions work together, we can address the pressing social issues that affect our people,” Minister Rou affirmed.
