An activist has called on all peace partners to support South Sudan to restore the Revitalized Agreement of Conflict in the Republic of Soil R-ARCSS
In a statement extended to the media Ter Manyang, the Executive Director for the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) emphasized the need for collective intervention from peace partners in order to rescue the agreement.
Manyang urgently called on the African Union (AU), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), European Union (EU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the East African Community (EAC) to take decisive action in supporting South Sudan to fully restore and implement the peace agreement.
“The CPA is deeply concerned about the deteriorating political climate, marked by a lack of political tolerance and an absence of genuine political will both of which are essential to moving the country forward” he said.
He added that the current political stagnation leaves the people of South Sudan in a precarious situation with no clear path in or out.
Manyang expressed that stagnation of peace agreement coupled with the alarming humanitarian, economic, and governance challenges need collective support of the partners.
“We are stuck; the people of South Sudan are trapped in a cycle of uncertainty. This is dangerous for a nation that struggles to meet the basic needs of its citizens. Without swift international support and pressure to fully implement the R-ARCSS, the situation could spiral beyond control.” He said.
He urged the international and regional bodies to redouble their efforts in engaging South Sudanese stakeholders, mediating political disagreements, and ensuring that all parties are held accountable to the commitments made under the peace agreement.
