The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) governor has refuted the claims of plan to print more South Sudanese Pounds to the country’ market.
Speaking on Monday, the governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Addis Ababa Othow said that the government exhausted all the plans including the need to print more SSP into the market.
He told South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation after meeting the committee in charge of finance in the national Assembly, the governor revealed government plan to consider printing of more banknotes.
“In the short-term plans, we have made it very clear that there is a need, an urgent need for us to print money just to meet the high demand right now for liquidity.” The governor said
The governor reaffirmed commitment to ensure that the liquidity crisis is control and economy improve.
However is a fresh released dated 23rd of July and extended to the media, Majok Nikodemo Arou, the Director of Communication and Public Relations dismissed the plan to print more SSP.
He expressed that the governor did not day that the government want to print more money as it is claimed online.
Nikodemo emphasized that the bank of South Sudan is guided by the law and can not wake up from no where and start to plan to print more money.
He appealed to the members of the public to cease and regard it as allegation.
The commissioner officers expressed that as independent institution, it will always communicate any new policy to the public through press releases and briefings.
He noted that the Bank of South Sudan have authority to print more money without necessary procedures as stated in the law.
“It is important to note that the Bank of South Sudan does not have the authority to print money for the purpose of paying civil servants or members of the organized forces,” he said
“We want to assure the public that the Bank of South Sudan has no plans to print additional money for salary payments.” He added.
