The South Sudan Vice President for Economics Benjamin Bol Mel has finally assumed office as first Deputy Chairperson of the rulling, party Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM).
In his addressing on Tuesday after assuming the office as the second to President Salva Kiir in the party, VP Bol vowed to ensure implementation of the policies and programs.
In his new position Bol is expected to spearhead the SPLM programs toward peace and economic recovery as the country is near to economic collapsed.
“We are the leading party we must implement our policies” Bol said.
While the public watches keenly on SPLM to implement development programs to bolster health, education and infrastructure.
VP Bol assumed the office on Tuesday together Mary Apai Ayiga, second Deputy Chairperson, Simon Kun Puoch, 3rd Deputy chairperson, and Kwong Danhier, the First Deputy Secretary and Acting Secretary General.
Bol called on the parties to cooperate and ensure that the SPLM policies are implemented.
Policies are written statements that guide the thinking and action of managers in decision making, it serves various purposes such as uniformity and ease co-ordination hence success.
SPLM has been championing the slogan “Justice, Liberty and Prosperity” and its vision of “Taking Town to the People,” as stated by its founder and late Dr. John Garang De Mabior.
Despites having proper document detailing programs, SPLM party continue to face challenges in transitioning the country from conflict to peace, an internal conflict created by top members in 2013.
The SPLM First Deputy Chairperson and Vice President, Bol Mel acknowledged the strategy position of the party citing that as ruling party, members must work for the benefit of the South Sudanese.
“SPLM is a heart of our country today and must work for our people deliver services to our people” he said
VP Bol reiterate party commitment to ensure services such as health services, schools among others are deliver to the publicand called on the public to have trust in the party.
“Trust us to develop peace and we shall deliver, trust as to deliver development and wait for our nation to be reforms” he said
In the recent days after VP Bol assume duties as head of economic cluster, salary disbursement for civil servant and organized forces took effect despites complain by some members that there is no cash being paid.
Although the government workers and failed to get their fully salary arrears for 2024, there is hope that the government will clear as they always promise.
The economic hardship under the economic cluster remainschallenges since no perfect step has been applied to ensure that it is reduce by all the parties to the 2018 peace agreement.
Till now some of the Citizen cannot afford meals due to the inflation that has made salaries to be of no use at all, a move that needs intervention.
Early this year the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Party, whose chairman is President Salva Kiir, unveiled plans to manage South Sudan’s economy better.
The directives issued during an SPLM leadership meeting, aim to prioritize timely salary payments, enforce lawful revenue collection, and eliminate illegal tax exemptions.
The measures are critical as South Sudan grapples with deep-rooted economic challenges, including overreliance on oil revenue, widespread corruption, and delays in paying government workers.
These issues have sparked public unrest and undermined trust in government institutions.
