The South Sudan debate contest will kick off on Wednesday in Bor town at least seven secondary schools in Jonglei state set to compete in the third edition.
Organized by an NGO, Teachers Without Borders Association, the debate contested will Be held at Amazing Grace and Spotlight High Schools.
Michael Dut Arok, a member of the Teachers Without Borders Association, stated that the contest will conclude on Friday, with a focus on peace, justice and equality as the central theme.
Dut also highlighted the numerous benefits of debate for students, noting how it fosters critical thinking and public speaking skills.
‘’The benefit of this debate is that it enhance public speaking among the learners and most of the people have been victims of several violence because people are not used to solving issues by talking. As a result, we as the association (TBA) have decided to bring this services closer to our students so that they are able to express themselves instead of using violence as a mean of solving disputes,’’ Dut explained.
Dut emphasized the importance of participating in co-curricular activities, encouraging students to take part in such events to uncover and nurture their talents.
Meanwhile, Thiak Amin Manyok, the debate patron at Shiek El Nur High School, confidently expressed that his students would emerge victorious in this year’s competition.
‘’We Shiek-El-Nur High School we are thoroughly prepared and our debaters are fully equipped and are aware of the world debate format. I am hopeful our students are going to emerge victorious because they are contented with the debate format, ‘’ He stated.
Emmanuel Ker Malith, a debater from Greenbelt Academy-Bor his teammates are thoroughly prepared to participate in the debate.
‘’As Greenblet Academy, we are hundred percent prepared or ready for the debate and this debate is something to show us that we are cooperating and promoting peace and sociality among the students that are going to inspire the community,’’ He said.
According to TBA, St. Andrew Secondary School won the first edition of the contest, defeating ShiekEl Nur High School in 2023.
However, after thorough preparation, Shiek El NurHigh School emerged victorious in the second edition in 2024 and went on to win at the national level in Juba.
