The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) under the leadership of Governor Dr. Addis Ababa Othow has embarked on a new initiative to promote an inclusive digital economy by partnering with Digitel Holdings’ fintech platform, Digicash.
This collaboration aims to extend mobile money services to all citizens of South Sudan.
The partnership highlights a shared commitment to developing a secure and accessible mobile money ecosystem across the country.
De Chan, the Executive Vice President of Digitel Holdings, emphasized the company’s dedication to this goal.
“At Digicash, we are committed to simplifying transactions, building customers trust and working with stakeholders to create a safe and mobile money ecosystem for everyone in South Sudan,” he said.
This strategic alliance is a key step in the nation’s efforts to modernize its financial sector and ensure that more people have access to banking and financial services, regardless of their location.
The focus on a digital economy is expected to foster greater financial inclusion and economic growth throughout the country.
Last month the Bank of South Sudan issued a statement informing the public that mobile money has been recognized as a valid form of payment in line with the Bank’s strategic plan 2023 to 2027 to increase the adult population’s use of mobile money service to 30 percent by 2027.
It underscored that the goal is to make digital financial services and products accessible to the excluded section of the population at a relatively low price.
Policy analyst welcomes the new development, declaring mobile money a legal tender but an economist questioned the legality of the move.
