Members of the Central Equatoria State (CES) Parliamentary Caucus in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly and the State Council held a strategic meeting on Thursday with Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel at the State Secretariat.
The meeting aimed to address pressing issues affecting the state and to enhance cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Governor Mujung emphasized the importance of a strong working relationship between the state government and Members of Parliament (MPs).
He outlined the government’s key strategic priorities, which include the promotion of peace, security, and unity across Central Equatoria.
He also encouraged lawmakers to serve as vocal representatives of their constituents in the national parliament.
“The caucus raised concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in Yei and Morobo counties, as well as the recent incursion by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) into Kajo-Keji,” Governor Mujung stated.
Other issues highlighted included poor service delivery and the persistent problem of land grabbing.
MPs called for immediate measures to address illegal land grabbing in Juba, halt interference in state revenue collection by the National Revenue Authority, and foster a peaceful and secure environment that would allow refugees and internally displaced persons to return to areas previously affected by conflict.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, Hon. Festo Lemi described the meeting as constructive and reaffirmed the caucus’s commitment to working hand in hand with the state government to improve service delivery and respond to citizens’ concerns.
“We discussed unity among political parties in the state, the issue of land grabbing, delayed salaries, and the rising cost of living,” Hon. Lemi said. “We urged the governor to involve us in addressing any matter that impacts the state.”
