At least four people were confirmed dead and more than twenty cases of cholera outbreak reported in Kudo Payam of Torit County in Eastern Equatoria State.
Speaking to the media, Kudo Payam health worker Solomon Odongi Jackson said many suspected cases of Cholera outbreak have been reported in the area.
He added that due to severity death cases continue to surge in the area.
“We have four dead cases registered in the facility – But within the facility whereas outside the facility” he said
He added that the number increase from 15 to 20 always in every week.
“The number, what we have currently in our line list, more than currently going to 15 to 20 almost every week” he added
He added that most of the cases have not yet been confirmed and may be in several areas.
“We have not yet confirmed but many areas have cases more specially the villages around” he said
Odongi stressed that the situation with sudden onset of severe, watery diarrhea and vomiting of patients is dire and alarming during rainy season especially where they are just treated under trees.
“Currently, when we look at the current situation in the facility, in terms of when you look at the way how we are trying to manage these cases, it is not all that easy. Even the isolation center, when you look at it, it is not a well stable isolation center. It is just under the tree,” he said
However, according to World Health Organization (WHO) earlier 2025, there had been a total of 51 054 reported cases and 973 deaths in South Sudan.
