The Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) has urged the parties to the peace agreement to resume cabinet Sittings to address National Issues.
Ter Manyang Gatwech Executive Director of Center for Peace and (CPA) called for immediate resumption of the cabinet meeting to address the challenges the country is going through.
Since the Frist Vice President Dr. Riek Machar was placed under house arrest in March, there has been no cabinet sitting.
The Cabinet is responsible for making and implementing policy decisions, and for coordinating the work of the government.
In South Sudan Cabinet ministers typically meet regularly especially on Fridays to discuss and decide on important issues facing the country however since March the cabinet could not convey despite that the fact that the country continue to go through challenges.
In respond to the silent of the cabinets, Activist Manyang called the parties to the peace agreement to resume the cabinet sitting in order to get solutions to the ongoing challenges such as conflict and economic crisis.
He called upon the Government of South Sudan to urgently resume cabinet sittings to deliberate on pressing national matters, including the effective implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
“We urge the leadership to prioritize the needs of the people and resume cabinet sessions without further delay,” Manyang said.
“The country is at a critical juncture, and it is imperative that our leaders come together to address issues of governance, security, and the full implementation of R-ARCSS.” He added
Manyang reaffirmed Civil society commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and accountability.
He called on all stakeholders and parties to the peace agreement to engage in constructive discussions that advance stability and development for all South Sudanese.
The Civil Society expressed concerned about the prolonged delays in cabinet meetings, especially at a time when the country is in desperate need of cohesive leadership and dialogue to address key political, economic, and humanitarian challenges.
“The current silence risks derailing the peace process and further undermines public trust in the transitional government’s commitment to national unity and progress” he expressed.
Meanwhile on his part the leader of the People’s United Forum and the Chairman of the Coalition of Opposition Parties (COOP). Dr. Ghai Chol called on the leaders to speed up dialogue and ensure resumption.
“There is a need for an inclusive dialogue to chart the way forward” he said
He added that in March 2025 following the house arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar and the subsequent disappearance of SPLM-IO leaders it has been hard for the government to conduct cabinet.
