Civil Society to rollout ‘No Return to War’ Campaigns

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has revealed plans to rollout ‘No Return to War’ Campaigns across the Country in a bid to safeguard peaceful coexistence.

Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani expressed that it time for the leaders to put the sentiment of no return to war into action.

Yakani expressed that the Citizens has a role to cease all forms of violent as well as calling on the leaderships to respect their promise of not returning the country back to war.

The Activist statement came at the time the 2018 peace agreement facing challenges such as confrontation despites several promised from leaders not to take the country back to war.

He urged the citizens to the take part and support the campaign for the return of peace and stability in the country.

“I would like to urge the Citizen that we will be rolling out a campaign called no Return to War and this should be Citizen driven campaigns” Yakani said  

“This campaign of no return to war is mainly intended to empower our Citizens and to give our Citizen opportunity to speak to the generals in Uniform wherever they are and whatever political Affiliation they belong to.” he added

The activist called on politicians and military Generals to cease fighting and ensure peace in the country.

“To our politicians where ever they are whatever political affiliation they belong to, to tell them enough is enough for violent and it is time to dialogue, it is time to talk, it is a time to demand them to listen to us and time to tell them peace and stability is our priority” he said

“This will be a multi stakeholder’s engagement and we are soon set to roll it out together as stakeholders” he added.

He urged South Sudanese to stand up and support no return to war campaigns adding that it is with in frame work of National Dialogue for peace and stability in the country.

“With the rest of everybody in the country i want you to support the agenda of no return to war wherever you are and wherever institution you belong to, let all standup and back up no return to war” he added.    

Recently Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) reaffirmed its commitment to 2018 peace agreement, assuring the public that the regime will not lead the country back to war.

Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services, who also serves as the government spokesperson, made this statement during a media briefing.

In his address to journalists, Makuei reiterated President Salva Kiir’s commitment to ensuring that the country does not return to war.

“All these activities seem to be taking people back to war, we are not taking people back to war that is why we are talking, if we are taking people back to war we could have work in silence,” Makuei said.

“Our president (Salva Kiir) has committed himself several times once and every time that he will not take you back to war, so we are not taking anybody to war,” he added.

On the nation’s 10th Independence Day, President Salva Kiir vowed to prevent the country from slipping back into war, urging unity and solidarity among the people.

“I want to assure you that I will not return you back to war. Let’s work together to recover from this past decade and put the country back on the path to development in this new decade,” Salva Kiir said.
