A couple were killed and seven children abducted in Lokiliri Payam, Juba County, Central Equatoria State.
The attack was allegedly carried out by armed individuals suspected to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
The tragic incident occurred over the weekend and was reported during the Central Equatoria State Security Committee’s weekly meeting, chaired by Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, at the State Secretariat today.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Jacob Aligo Lo-Ladu, confirmed the attack took place on August 24, 2025.
He said the perpetrators, identified as members of the Murel community from GPAA, killed a married couples a husband and a wife and abducted seven children aged between one and two years.
“The Security Committee of Central Equatoria State strongly condemns the brutal killing of the innocent couple and the abduction of young children, these acts are unacceptable, and the security organs have been instructed to remain vigilant and protect civilians and their properties.” said Minister Aligo.
The Minister also updated the media on other security matters within Juba.
He noted that police had successfully intercepted several major crimes. One case involved a stolen boda-boda (motorcycle taxi), which was recovered using GPS tracking.
The suspects behind the theft, believed to be part of a group known as the “AK47 riders,” are now in custody and under investigation.
In a separate incident, suspects referred to as “Torontos” allegedly robbed a citizen of 700,000 South Sudanese Pounds.
The police were able to track and arrest the perpetrators and recover the stolen money.
Additionally, Minister Aligo reported localized flooding in parts of Juba, including Gudele, Munuki Block 5, Block 7, and Block 4.
He urged the reactivation of the state disaster response committee to address the urgent needs of affected residents.
The Central Equatoria State Security Committee reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring justice for victims of violence and crime.
