Eastern Equatoria State Governor, Louis Lobong Lojore has renewed his call for the complete removal of all cattle from Magwi County.

The governor’s appeal was made during an ordination ceremony at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Catholic Church in Loa on Friday.

Governor Lobong expressed alarm over the return of cattle to Magwi, animals that had previously crossed into Uganda.

He noted that these herds, originally from neighboring Jonglei State, are causing widespread destruction of farmland.

This damage is threatening local food production and undermining the food security of the area.

He clarified that the community’s demand is not an ethnic issue, but a matter of protecting land and livelihoods.

“The issue is not about chasing anyone away; it is about removing cattle from a community that does not traditionally keep them,” he stated.

He added that the concerns of the Magwi residents must not be misinterpreted.

The governor emphasized that resolving the cattle issue is crucial for restoring peaceful coexistence and safeguarding agriculture, which is vital to Magwi County’s economy.

Furthermore, Governor Lobong urged members of the Madi community who are currently living across the border to return to their ancestral homes.

He believes their presence would help prevent the illegal occupation of vacant land and properties.
