The Ezra Construction and Development Group has introduced a 13% interim discount on the Thermal Energy Tariff to support affordable energy access in South Sudan.

A 13% interim discount on thermal energy tariffs is introduced to ease consumer burdens until the Nesitu power plant is operational. This follows a 20% discount provided in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the report, the discount will be effective from April until the Nesitu power plant is commissioned.

In a statement, ECDG Managing Director, Samson Tekie Ezra, stated that the company is committed to providing reliable electricity and ensuring accessible and affordable energy for all sectors of South Sudan.

Mr. Ezra said that they collaborated with the Ministry of Energy and Dams to implement a cost-effective energy framework.

“As part of our efforts to integrate cost-effective energy sources into the national grid, we implemented our Multiple Independent Power Producer (IPP) framework in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Dams (MED) and other key stakeholders,” he explained.

He further hinted that NESITU Power Plant’s timely commissioning is crucial for achieving affordable energy.

“However, achieving the full benefits of the framework requires the timely commissioning of the NESITU Power Plant, as this is pivotal to fulfilling the government’s promise of affordable energy,” Ezra boss cites

“This interim discount will help ensure the objectives of the Multiple IPP framework remain on course.” He echoed.

ECDG emphasized their commitment to transforming South Sudan’s energy landscape for a prosperous future.

“The 13% discount on thermal energy tariffs to JEDCO will directly benefit all customers, ensuring energy remains accessible for public and commercial sectors,” Mr. Ezra noted.

“We at ECDG, see ourselves as part of the solution and are committed to continuing our efforts to transform the South Sudanese energy and business landscape. Together with our partners, we are taking meaningful steps to improve energy access across South Sudan and ultimately build a more prosperous future for all.” He affirmed.

Besides, Mr. Ezra expressed his gratitude for the partnership and cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Dams.

He added that “ECDG will continue to work with the Ministry of Energy and Dams and other stakeholders to monitor the progress of South Sudan’s energy sector and implement long-term sustainable solutions.”
