The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, on Thursday officially presided over the swearing-in ceremony of David Anyang as the new SPLM State Secretary, in an event held at the SPLM Jonglei State Secretariat in Bor Town.

In his keynote address, Governor Riek described the appointment as “a moment of gratitude and renewal” for the SPLM in Jonglei, urging the new secretary to prioritize unity and grassroots mobilization across the state.

“Today is a day we thank God for Comrade David Anyang. You must lead our citizens with heart and dedication. All tribes in Jonglei are behind you. Visit every boma, payam, and county to unite our people and find lasting solutions, especially in Pibor and beyond. We want a new SPLM,” he said.

The governor further reaffirmed his administration’s support to the party leadership in strengthening political structures ahead of the 2026 General Elections, calling for inclusive participation and community engagement.

“Tour every corner of Jonglei, listen to the challenges, and rally our people,” he added.

Representing the county leadership, Samuel Ateny Pech, Commissioner of Bor County, welcomed the appointment, describing it as a “timely and visionary decision.”

“The SPLM House in Jonglei needs strengthening, and this appointment marks a positive step forward. Let us push the party ahead of the elections,” Ateny said.

In his acceptance speech, David Anyang expressed profound gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the SPLM Secretary-General, and Governor Riek for the confidence entrusted to him.

“I am deeply humbled by this appointment. I will work closely with the governor and our structures to advance development, strengthen our membership, and prepare for the 2026 General Elections,” he pledged.

He further called for unity and reconciliation among party members, emphasizing collective responsibility.

“Let communities handle community matters and let the party focus on party matters. To my comrades who contested for this position, we are one. The SPLM has many roomslet’s make our party great again,” he concluded.

The ceremony drew a large attendance, including members of the State Liberation Council, executive and parliamentary caucuses, youth and women leagues, veterans, and various cultural groups, marking a vibrant show of solidarity for the ruling party in Jonglei State.
