Gov’t, UNDP launch Projects aim at fostering Peace

The Ministry Peace building in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration have launched projects aimed at fostering peace among communities.

The two peacebuilding projects between the Ministry of Peacebuilding, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are aimed at fostering peace and social cohesion among communities.

Addressing participates during the Launching, Minister of Peacebuilding Stepehen Par Kuol expressed that the projects will help the communities.

“This project is very important and timely because it is community centred and as politician our work is to ensure that our communities are in peace and secured” Par said  

“Juba is not South Sudan, South Sudan is out there at grassroot and that is why encourage you to support this” he added

He expressed that the government remained committed to focus on all avenues aimed to bring communal conflict to an end.

“We can start with violent reduction by our aim is to end community violent we must go beyond reduction” he said.

He encouraged the Civil Society and the government to cooperate with the UNDP in ensuring the project is implemented.

“Our role is to provide structure environment in which our communities can dialogue and find owned solutions to their own problem” he said
“It is not about us it is about the communities” he added

He urged the communities to embrace Peace and Unity.

On his part, UNDP Resident Representative, Dr Mohamed Abchir expressed that the projects will contribute in promoting reconciliation.

He added that the projects focus on community driven solution in ending conflict with aimed to encourage growth and cohesion.

Abchir appreciated the Ministry of Peace in Particular and South Sudan government at large for the continuous cooperation.

The two projects are Community Violence Reduction Partnerships with White Nile and Sobat River Communities to Advance Socioeconomic Cohesion and Peace Uses of the White Nile as Sobat River as well as Peacebuilding and Preventing Violent Extremism in East Africa.
