The Governor of Jonglei State Dr Riek Gai Kok has affirmed the state government’s commitment to collaborating with development partners to accelerate relief efforts in the state.

According to a statement issued by the press unit yesterday, Gai collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Finn Church Aid and NGOs Forum aimed to ensure expedited assistance to distressed individuals within the state.

The statement emphasized Gov. Riek Gai convened a strategic meeting with representatives from the UNOCHA, Finn Church Aid, and the South Sudan NGOs Forum to reinforce humanitarian access and food delivery efforts across Jonglei State.

It underscored the delegation was led by Mr. David Carden, Head of UNOCHA South Sudan, whose leadership and commitment were warmly appreciated by the Governor.

“We will make our position clear: food must reach the people who need it most,” said Governor Kok.
“I appeal to our partners to ensure that aid distribution is equitable and inclusive of all impacted areas.” He added.

The statement also underlined the leader of the delegation, Mr. Carden emphasized the importance of collaboration between humanitarian actors and the State Government.

“Our partners are essential to this mission. With the support of the State Government, we can strengthen our collaboration and ensure continued delivery of food and services to the people of Jonglei. This partnership is vital for improving lives and restoring hope,” he stated.

It stressed that he applauded the new administration of Gov. Dr. Riek Gai Kok for prioritising the humanitarian needs of the citizens, especially as the state is faced with problems that need serious intervention.

According to the statement, the meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable communities, especially in hard-to-access areas affected by flooding and displacement.
