The Governor of Jonglei State has reiterated support for faith-based leaders to engage communities in peace activities.
Dr. Riek Gai Kok made the remark during the visit of His Grace, Bishop Anba Elia of the Coptic Orthodox Church to governor’s residence.
During the meeting, Governor Riek called on the Church leaders to use the gospel to build peace among the communities.
He called on the faith-based leaders to pray for peace in the state.
“We place our governance and the well-being of our people in God’s hands, seeking His guidance in all that we do. As you visit, we ask that you pray for our government, our people, and for continued peace and prosperity in our land.” The governor said
He also praised the Church’s long-standing role in shaping the moral, educational, and agricultural fabric of Jonglei. He appealed for divine intervention in steering the state forward.
The visit also strengthened cooperation between the Church, White Penguin Organization, and Jonglei State in areas including agriculture, health, and education.
Bishop Elia who also conveyed prayers and blessings on behalf of the Church praised the governor’s decision to rededicate the state to God, calling it “one of the most important things any leader can do for a generation.”
Bishop Elia lauded Governor Riek’s commendable leadership in improving infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and security.
“He is not just rebuilding structures; he is restoring the soul of the state. Jonglei State is once again on God’s altar,” the bishop said,
Governor Riek’s appeal for prayers and Bishop Elia’s blessings underscored the deepening role of faith in Jonglei’s governance, reinforcing the state’s commitment to spiritual renewal and partnership for public service.
