The new Governor of Jonglei State has pledged to collaborate with all political parties to serve the interests of the citizens.

During his welcoming ceremony on Saturday, Governor Dr. Riek Gai called for cooperation among all political parties in the state.

Governor Gai emphasized his commitment to working with leaders across the state, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“We will work as children of the state who have been entrusted by the top authority to serve the people of Jonglei State. If we open schools, they will not belong to any party like SPLM-IG or IO but will be for all the youth in the state,” he stated.

“I will join hands with my brothers from different parties and walk together as one government. If we fail, we fail as a team, and if we succeed, we succeed as a team. We will work together as one entity, and any success will be attributed to all of us,” he added.

Additionally, he urged the people of Jonglei to prioritize peace and harmony.

He stressed that essential services, such as road construction, could only be delivered if peace prevailed in the state.

“I came here believing that you will stand with me to work for peace so that our people can enjoy the services they need, such as roads connecting northern counties like Uror, Pigi, Akobo, Ayod, Lankien, and others in the state,” he pointed out.

He also announced plans to organize wrestling for peace matches as part of the upcoming May 16 celebrations in the state.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by state and national ministers, MPs, UN representatives, NGOs, women, youth, local chiefs, and school children.
