Lakes State government launches search crackdown for illegal firearms and illicit alcohol within Town and highways across Lakes State, officials confirmed.

The acting minister of information and communication in Lakes State, William Koji Kerjok said the disarmament process of armed civilians is going on within the Town and  high ways of Lakes State.

He said it was officially announced that the firearms is not allowed and should not be seen in the Town.

” The disarmament operation is going on. We can not determine the number of firearms collected in Wulu, Cueibet, Rumbek East and one yet to be collected are not assembled “, he said. ” They will not release the data of collected firearms as per now “.

He said the operation to disarm the civilians is still ongoing and also the issue related to alcohol.

“The alcohol is to be search and if it is found. It has to be destroyed”, he said. ” Those who are still insisting, brewing alcohol and those who causes insecurity in Lakes State will be taken to the court and some were already taken to the court and they will be fine for insisting to drink alcohol in Lakes State.

” My message, the government of Lakes State and it is by the law of this State brewing and consuming alcohol is not allowed. The issue of firearms seen in the Town is not allowed and it is a red line”, he said. ” We know, our young people across the country have firearms in their hands but they are supposed to use it somewhere, where there are not supposed to bring it closer to the people”.

He said it is illegal even if they are keeping in that far places according to the government of Lakes State and its people.

He said the guns should not be brought to Town and that’s why the search is ongoing and it is to be collected and owner arrested if it is found in possession.

” Anyone found with firearms within the town, should be arrested and held accountable for criminal activity and will be question on why do you bring the gun to Town, and what do you want to do by bringing firearm to the town. It is not allowed and the operation will continue to search for those who are keeping the firearms within the town”.

He said weapons is only for those who are authorized within the organized forces who are implementing law and order of this country.

Laht Kon,  civil society activist in Lakes State applauds the government search operation to disarm civilians with guns in Rumbek town.

“Looking at the current disarmament exercise, the search that’s going on in Rumbek town. You know as a civil society we welcome that search because there has been fear in town and you know the arms are being brought into town by those cattle camps youths. They came with arms and in case they find out there is somebody they want to revenge they can easily have access to those firearms.

He said what we are calling on security is that they really need to do a real search because now they do search and when they find the alcohol sometimes they may be dealing out with alcohol and forget the firearms which are supposed to be taken too.

He said it has to be organized and it has to follow the policy because the armed men must do search with responsibility of not taking whatever citizen belong in an area.

” It should be the search for the firearms, and even armed groups are also having like pangas and other Sharp things which they used to fight themselves”, he said
