More than 200 households have been displaced by heavy flooding in parts of pochalla South and North the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, the region’s Information Minister, Jacob Werchum Juok, has confirmed.

Speaking to local Nile witness on Tuesday, Minister Juok said weeks of torrential rains have submerged homes, destroyed farmlands, and forced families to seek refuge on higher ground.

“last week there was flooding in Pochalla South and now it has move to pochalla North and it has displace many people to the higher grounds” said Juok.

He added that there is no any assessment being made by the either national organization or international organization.

“The situation is worsening. Over 200 households have been displaced, and many are in dire need of food, shelter, and medicine,” he said.

According to the minister, the hardest-hit areas include villages along the  River, where rising water levels have cut off access routes, complicating humanitarian response efforts.

He noted that children, elderly people, and lactating mothers are among the most vulnerable.

He appeal to national authorities and humanitarian partners to provide temporary shelters and emergency supplies to rescue the situation.

“We appeal to the national government, aid agencies, and well-wishers to come quickly to the aid of our people. Without timely support, the displaced families will face serious hardships,” he stressed.

Flooding is a recurring disaster in GPAA, with seasonal rains often overwhelming fragile infrastructure and leaving thousands at risk of displacement.

Humanitarian organizations have previously warned that the combination of floods, food insecurity, and inter-communal violence continues to exacerbate the vulnerability of residents in the area.
