President Salva Kiir has reaffirmed his commitment to restore peace and stability.
President Kiir made the statement while meeting with church leaders in his Office on Wednesday.
This Meeting came at a time where reports of Army confrontation between parties threated the 2018 peace agreement.
In a statement, Kiir has vowed to keep his promise of ensuring peace and stability is restored.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to restoring peace, insisting that he is resolute to ensure the country never returns to war” the statement partly read.
In a display of unity, the President and church’s top leaders prayed for peace, calmness and co-existence as the South Sudanese unite to rebuild the nation.
He reiterated his commitment toward peace and stability in the country.
The President expressed that despite challenges he will continue to work hard to ensure that peace is attain.
He appealed to the South Sudanese to remain calm and support the government in peace building.
On his part the Archbishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan Dr. Justin Badi Arama, called on both the government and Opposition forces to embrace peace for the greater good of the nation.
Badi expressed that the Church will engage all parties, to prioritise peace as their number one agenda, in an effort to achieve a sustainable peace for long-term stability of the country.
The Clergies appealed to the people carrying arms to denounce conflict, urging them to embrace dialogue, in a bid to prevent the nation from descending into further conflict.
