South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has revealed that the government is removing corrupt officials from government systems in order to improving the struggling economy.

While addressing the Nation to marks its 14th independence anniversary, President Kiir revealed that the government has made concrete plan to revive the economy.

He revealed that one among the methods is removal of those who enrich themselves through government wealth.

“Our economy has struggled and we are taking action; we are strengthening our systems; we are removing those who put their self-interest before the country” Kiir said.

In addition to removing corrupt and greedy officials in the system, the government has also double efforts in improving Agriculture.

The president appreciated the Citizens for their patience and endurance during the time of both food and physical insecurity adding that such action made the government to continue to stand.

“Thank you for your patience, your resilience and your belief in the government of South Sudan, because of you, we are still standing” Kiir said

The president called on the Citizen to remain united despites political games or challenges.

“We have always been united and today i want you to be more united than never, do not let anything or anyone divide you again” he urged.

In separate statement Ter Manyang Gatwech a civil society activist urged the country to reflect deeply on the meaning of independence by ensuring service delivery.

Gatwech said despite immensely sacrificing a lot to achieve independence in 2011, the realities that citizens face today are a stark reflection of a nation that is far from freedom.

“More than half of our people are refugees or internally displaced. Civil servants go for years without salaries. Families cannot afford food or healthcare,” Gatwech stated.

“This is not the independence our heroes died for.” he said
