Morobo County Commissioner in Central Equatoria state, Charles Data Bullen has confirmed the exodus of residents some of whom are crossing the border to the neighbouring Uganda.
In an interview with this outlet, commissioner Data said that exodus is linked to the fear created by the arrest of first Vice President Dr. Machar in Juba as well as confrontation between forces in some part of the country.
“People around, and may be more than 100 people are movedto the neighbouring Uganda, they crossed from Kaya to Koboko District in Uganda, it started after the reports of the tension in Juba and the arrest of Dr. Machar” he said.
He expressed that despites those leaving the area some members of the community who understand that the security remain normal are in their houses.
The commissioner urged the residents to remain calm adding that the tension is reported on social however the situation remain under government control.
Data urged the residents of Kaya and Morobo county at large to remain calm and concentrate on their normal activities since no tangible incidence of security threat has been reported.
According to the commissioner People of Panyume payam and part of Gulumbi payam in Morobo county have been sent into panic with the dwelling of the SPLA -IO forces in the area and the recent news of arrest of their leaders in capital Juba.
He added prevailing national security atmosphere has created fear in the citizens compelling many families to leave their homes for safety elsewhere.
Data however attributes the situation to exaggerated rumours amongst the population and added that all the necessary security measures will be taken in case of indicators of security threat.
The acting payam director of Panyume payam Mr. Soro Charles added that he has witnessed people moving with property away from the payam which may slow down overall activities in the payam.
