The South Sudan Football Association has elected new executive members to lead the Bor Local Football Association for the next four years.
The election, held on Friday will see the newly elected team manage football activities in Jonglei State from 2025 to 2029.
A total of 39 delegates cast their votes to fill key leadership positions, including President, Vice President, Secretary General, and Treasurer.
Counsel Ayuel Lazarus Kon, Chairperson of the BOLFA Sub-Electoral Committee, officially declared David Kuol Ateny as the newly elected President after he secured 21 votes, narrowly defeating his opponent by three votes.
“I, Counsel Ayuel Lazarus Kon, Chairperson of the BOLFA Sub-Electoral Committee, hereby declare Mr. David Kuol Ateny as the President of the Bor Local Football Association for the term 2025 to 2029,” he announced.
Alongside Kuol, Michael Thiong Ayuen was elected as Vice President with 20 votes, David Marial Mach secured the position of Secretary General with 21 votes, and Deng David Akech was elected as Treasurer with 20 votes.
Counsel Ayuel also revealed the list of newly appointed members of the Board of Directors for BOLFA.
Maciek Atem, Director General at the Jonglei State Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, urged all stakeholders to respect the elected leadership and praised the electoral committee for conducting a transparent and fair election.
He also emphasized the need for better coordination between the BOLFA, and supporting partners with the government.
“I’ve been in office for seven months, but no organization has formally informed us about collaborations with the state football body. I urge BOLFA and all interested organizations to notify the ministry to allow for proper monitoring and support,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Chol Ajing, Deputy Secretary General of the SSFA, reaffirmed the national football body’s commitment to working with the newly elected leadership.
“SSFA will continue its cooperation with BOLFA just as it did with the previous administration. BOLFA has always been responsive and dependable,” he said.
President-elect David Kuol Ateny expressed gratitude to voters and pledged inclusive leadership.
“I thank everyone who voted for me. I promise to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the development of football in Jonglei State,” he stated.
Kuol also pledged to empower women’s football and support youth sports programs.
“We currently have only two women’s teams in the state. My goal is to increase that number and create awareness about the importance of women’s football,” he said.
“Many of our current players are nearing retirement, so we must nurture young talent through academies to ensure a sustainable future for football in the state,” he stated.
He also promised to strengthen governance structures within BOLFA to improve accountability and operational efficiency.
