Authorities in Akobo County, Jonglei State have reported the killing of three family members on Thursday by suspected Murle gunmen.

According to the authorities, the criminals wanted to raid cattle but failed resulting in the death of a man, wife and a grand daughter.

Puok Nyang Tutjiek, Akobo County Commissioner said the incident happened in Nyikan village at 11 PM.

“Last night there were some criminals I guess they were from Pibor attacked one family. An old man with his wife in the home. So they attacked them at 11 pm at night and killed the old man and his wife plus granddaughter. I think the criminals.’’ Commissioner Nyang said.

He pointed out that the youth tried to pursue the criminals but later came back.

Commissioner Nyang called on Pibor leadership to work for peace and control their criminals.

‘’Akobo is for peace we don’t have problems with anybody. As usual I want to urge authority to maintain peace between Lou Nuer and Murle because peace is good with us. It is also good with greater Jonglei and Pibor Administrative Area.’’ Puok said.

‘’ So if there are criminals who sometimes come and take law into their hands and steal cows and also abduct children and women and kill people they should control them like what we are doing now.’’ He added.

He also called on the national government to implement the 2018 agreements to bring lasting peace to the country.

Meanwhile, Bor based Civil Society Activist Bol Deng Bol condemned the attack on the innocent civilians.

‘’As civil society we are disappointed we heart brokenand we are appealing for an end to all these to stop so that we can see how to rebuild our country again together as citizens.’’ He said.

Activist Bol implored Pibor leadership to trace the perpetrators and bring them to book.

Attempts to contact Greater Pibor Administrative Area for a comment were futile.
