The communities in Tonj South County of Warrap state have registered 255 armed civilians for police training in Tonj town.

The youth made this swift decision after voluntary handing over the illegal arms to the disarmament team through local authorities. Among the communities that have surrendered their arms include Thony, Apuk Juwiir, Muok and Yar.

In a statement to the media on Friday, the commissioner of Tonj South County John Ayitiak Warwien emphasized on the importance of community policing toward improving security in the area. He further urged fellow armed youth to follow suit by surrendering their guns as a gesture for maintaining law and order between the conflict communities.

According to Ayitiak, this is a continued engagement with traditional authorities aimed at promoting peaceful resolution of the Conflict through traditional hybrid system. Centers have been allocated to host these trainings of community policing. He encouraged armed youth to cooperate with the concerned authorities by joining training centers voluntarily.
