The South Sudan’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. AtongKuol Manyang Juuk paid an official visit to the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) on Thursday, where she lauded the institution’s frontline role in safeguarding public safety and boosting investor confidence through quality assurance.

Accompanied by her Technical Advisor, Undersecretary UstazYel Luol Koor, legal advisors, and director generals, the Minister was welcomed by SSNBS Executive Director Hon. Gloria Nyoka and top Bureau officials.

The visit included a tour of key departments such as the Central Laboratory and Metrology Division, where the Minister observed firsthand the Bureau’s operations in ensuring product quality, safety, and compliance with national and international standards.

Speaking during a reception at SSNBS headquarters, Minister Atong praised the professionalism and dedication of the Bureau’s staff.

“The technical expertise I have witnessed today is not only impressive but essential to our national security and economic development,” she said.

Mrs. Kuol reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting SSNBS, pledging investments in laboratory upgrades, staff training, and capacity-building initiatives.

“Modernizing SSNBS is a priority. A strong, well-equipped Bureau builds public trust and attracts the investments we need for national growth,” she added.

For her part, SSNBS Executive Director Gloria Nyoka thanked the Minister for the visit, highlighting recent achievements and outlining pressing challenges, including the need for enhanced laboratory infrastructure, improved staff welfare, and sustained technical support.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to protect the people and environment of South Sudan through quality assurance and standardization,” Nyoka said.

Meanwhile Undersecretary Yel Luol echoed the importance of the Bureau’s role, calling it “the eye of the nation,” responsible for protecting citizens through strict enforcement of product standards and conformity assessments.

Staff representatives also expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the institution’s mandate under the leadership of Hon. Nyoka.

The visit comes as part of broader government efforts to strengthen national institutions critical to public health, safety, and economic development, in line with South Sudan’s long-term vision for industrial growth and consumer protection.
