The National Ministry of Trade and Industry is seeking support from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to bolster South Sudan’s trade infrastructure and institutional capacity.

Minister of Trade and Industry Atong Kuol Manyang Juuk on Wednesday met with a UNOPS delegation led by its Country Representative to follow up on previous discussions.

The ministry’s press unit noted that the meeting, which included senior ministry officials, focused on key areas where UNOPS’s expertise and assistance are needed.

According to a statement from the ministry, the minister thanked UNOPS for its consistent engagement and outlined a number of priority projects

To streamline trade and improve customs operations, the ministry is requesting assistance in constructing modern, well-equipped border facilities through modern border entry points.

The ministry also aims to build and equip modern laboratories for product testing, particularly for fish, to ensure quality and compliance with international standards and to enhance efficiency and data management, the ministry is seeking support to establish a comprehensive database system.

Furthermore the ministry stated that this collaboration is intended to strengthen key infrastructure and institutional capacity, with the ultimate goal of supporting economic development and trade within South Sudan.
