Traditional leaders of Yambio County in Western Equatoria State have voiced deep concerns over the frequent changes of state leadership, urging President Salva Kiir Mayardit to allow time for newly appointed leaders to deliver for the people.

Speaking during a community gathering on Thursday, the chiefs emphasized that leadership turnover has slowed progress and weakened trust.

“We are not politicians, but we are not happy with what is happening. Whenever someone begins to do good work for our people, they are removed. We don’t want this to happen again,” one chief stressed.

The leaders appealed to the President to grant Governor Barrister James Al-Taib Jazz Berapai the space and time to implement his vision for Western Equatoria State.

Furthermore, they also commended the President for reinstating the Azande Kingdom, describing it as a “pillar of unity” for communities across Kingdom.
From the insecurity-hit Payams of Nadiangere and Rangu, local chiefs expressed hope that the Governor would restore peace and stability.

“Our people are no longer in their houses because of insecurity, and we trust that the leadership of Governor Berapai will bring peace to our communities,” said a Payam chief.

Yambio Town Mayor, His Worship John Singira echoed the call for peace, highlighting a renewed partnership between traditional authorities and local government within his jurisdiction.

“We have united for one common purpose peace. We do not want to hear the sound of guns in our municipality again. Our people deserve peace to live, work, and meet their daily needs,” the mayor said.

In his response, Governor Barrister James Al-Taib Jazz Berapai reassured traditional leaders of his administration’s commitment to working closely with them.

“You are the parents of peace. I appeal to you to be ambassadors of peace in all your areas. Carry the message of the President: there must be security, coexistence, and harmony in Western Equatoria,” he told the chiefs.

Governor Berapai further urged armed groups still in the bush to return and join in building peace, development, and service delivery across the state.
