The Government of South Sudan on Monday admitted the presence of UPDF in South Sudan declaring it procedural as to agreements dating back to the time when UPDF fought LRA alongside SPLA.

Minister of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services Michael Makuei Lueth reveals that South Sudan and Uganda governments have military agreements that legalized the processes.

“There is a military pact between the government of South Sudan and the Republic of Uganda, the pact talks of protection of the territorial integrity of the two state that is protection of people, land and government” he said

There has been mounting pressure from citizens regarding recent presence of the UPDF in Juba, videos and pictures going viral on social medias, however it was refuted by the government.

The country continues to register confrontations between the South Sudan People’ Defense Forces (SSPDF) and the White Army particularly in Nasir County of Upper Nile state.

“UPDF is present here in Juba and you have seen it even though there are fake footages that have been shown” said Makuei

He reiterates that the presence of the UPDF technical team is in good faith to help the SSPDF to bring peace and stability in some areas where there are hostilities.

He calls on the Citizens to cease using social media to share misinformation adding that they fuel conflict.
