The Government of South Sudan has lifted the immunities of officials detained in relation to Nasir conflict.

Officials were detained in Juba following conflict in Nasir County in Upper Nile between government forces and the white army.

In a press conference, the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services Michael Makuei Lueth announced lifting of immunity of post holders under detention but declined to mention the names of the officials in question.

“The other point you need to know is the fate of the detainees Some the detainees are constitutional Post holders and their immunities are lifted” Makuei said.

He expressed that the post holder under investigation has all their constitutional rights including legals rights.

“They will be investigated and tried according to the law and shall be entitled to all their constitutional and legal rights” he adds
 
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) Chief of staff Gabiel Duop Lam was the first followed by Petroleum Minister Puto Koang.
it was later reported that over 20 officials were arrested in similar crack down.

The arrest comes amid escalating tensions in the country where clashes between the South Sudan People’s DefenseForces (SSPDF) and local armed youth have raised concerns over instability in the region.

Although some of them were released prominent officials remain in detention despites several calls for their release.

National Security Spokesperson John Kumuri confirmed to Journalist during one of the press Briefing adding that the officials were suspected to have hands in Nasir.
