A dawn attack targeting cattle camps in Tonj North County, Warrap State, has left at least 49 people dead and 33 others injured on Thursday morning according to State authorities.
In an official statement issued on August 27, 2026 and extended to The Nile Witness, the Warrap State Ministry of Information and Communication, stated that the attack occurred at approximately 5:00 AM.
Warrap State Information Minister, Hon. William Wol Mayom Bol said armed raiders launched a simultaneous assault on the Machar-Pakuek cattle camp and Mading Juer Boma located in Majak Payam, as well as targeting areas in Alabek Payam.
He attributed the violent raid to a cross-border criminal network comprising armed Nuer elements from Kuc-Naam, Bul-2 in Unity State, working alongside local sub-clans including the Pan-ariik, Ming, Reng, Aduet, and Adok-thok of Akop Payam.
Meanwhile, the targeted communities and victims were identified as the Juer and Lou-dit.
The Minister reported 49 deaths on both sides following the clashes: including 21 Nuer attackers, 15 Juer, 9 Lou-dit, 2 Palipiny, and 2 Apuk-Padoc members and 33 injuries comprising of 22 Juer, 7 Lou-dit, 3 Pan-ariik, and 1 Apuk-Padoc.
Minister Mayom, strongly condemned the attack and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“We appeal for restraint as the two state governments establish cooperation to bring culprits to book and deter future incidents,” Hon. Mayom stated.
He reiterated that the commitment of Warrap State leadership, under Governor H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, to fostering peaceful co-existence among neighboring communities.
The state government also appealed to humanitarian organizations and well-wishers to provide urgent aid to respond to the humanitarian crisis and displacement resulting from the violent conflict.
