The African Union (AU) has called on South Sudanese and political parties to back President Salva Kiir and the First Vice President Dr. Machar in deescalating the political tension in the country.  

While meeting the Vice President for the Service Cluster, Josephine Joseph Lagu, the AU Head of Liaison Office in South Sudan, Joram Biswaro called on all South Sudanese to Support their leaders.

“We need to uphold dialogue and this dialogue would involve the leaders, President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Dr. Machar has to meet and dialogue and deescalate the situation”he said

He appealed to all the parties to push the two leaders to meet and dialogue in order to iron out misunderstanding and return the peace to it path.

“All the parties and public should rally behind this leader in order de-escalation the violent i wish the public could listen to the two leaders and cease violent in order for peace to prevail.

This statement came after reports of armed confrontation between South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People Liberation Movement/ Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO).

Meanwhile, the Vice President’s Acting Press Secretary, Christopher Surur, stated that Vice President Lagu assured the AU of the coalition government’s dedication to maintaining peace in the country.

The discussion focused on strengthening political dialogue as a means of addressing the worsening political environment. Biswaro reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s peace and stability efforts.
