Former Western Equatoria State Governor and Sector Six Commander of SPLM/A-IO Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba has dismissed members defected to President Kiir’s camp as Opportunists who betrayed the movement.

General Futuyo said the Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA-IO) officers who recent switched allegiance were not true members at the first place.

“These individuals are not and have never been genuine cadres of our movement (SPLA-IO),” he stated.

“They did not stand in the bush with us, and now they are defecting purely for positions and personal benefits.” he added.

This week About one thousand, one-hundred and four (1,104) SPLA-IO personnel based in Western and Eastern Equatoria including various training centers in Juba, Bahr el Ghazal and Jonglei joined SSPDF.

Futuyo emphasized that real members of SPLM/A-IO have endured hardship and demonstrated unwavering dedication to the struggle for freedom, justice and reform.

“Those who abandon the people’s cause for short-term rewards will soon regret their decisions,” he said.

He reassured supporters that the movement remains strong and undeterred by these defections.

“For every seat they vacate, we will fill it with loyal and committed comrades who earned their place through sacrifice, not by chasing opportunities,” he added.

The statement comes just a day after several high-profile figures, including the Nzara County Commissioner and Yambio Municipality Mayor, officially joined the SPLM-IG in a ceremony attended by Acting Governor Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa.

However, Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba was relived last month from Western Equatoria state (WES) governorship, a move rejected and termed as Violation of peace agreement by SPLA-IO. Due to controversies after removal, Futuyoreport/rebelled to the bushes where his forces are withing WES.
