Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani has called on South Sudan People Défense Forces (SSPDF) and the white army to ceasefire and dialogue.
According to a statement, Yakani expressed that the Easter season requires people to forgive and reconcile adding that the ongoing conflict has caused a lot of suffering to South Sudanese.
“I would like to call our brothers and sister in the white army however bitter you are let have ceasefire hold and let go for dialogue the same thing to SSPDF let have ceasefire hold and let us move for dialogue” Yakani said.
“I am appealing to you in this season of the Easter, allow ceasefire to hold, de-escalate violent, stop violent and opt to use dialogue as the path way for resolving political differences” he added.
The Activist appealed to the parties in conflict in Upper Nile and other part of the country to listen to the suffering of the women and children and embrace dialogue to end the violent.
“Therefore, with the tears of women, children who are notaware of the future of their fathers, with the Cry of elderslet stop the violent and sit down to dialogue” he said
“Violent do not gain anything apart from widening, distrust apart from creating huge displacement, I am appealing to you our leaders let opt for dialogue” he added
“White Army i am calling you for de-escalation of violent, let stand for dialogue SSPDF de-escalate the violent let stand for dialogue” he reiterated.
Yakani also called on the President Salva Kiir to direct the National Transitional committee to initiate dialogue for all stakeholders to resolve some of the misunderstanding threatening peace agreement.
“Whenever South Sudanese are crying for peace and stability you make and decision, Your Excellence the President under your leadership and sub-ordinate declared the party’s signatory to the agreement to hold a dialogue under the umbrella of National transitional committee (NTC)” he said
In separate statement, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla called on Citizens to reconcile during Easter season.
In his Easter message to believers on Friday, Cardinal Ameyu urged South Sudanese to forgive one another and reconcile.
“The journey toward lasting peace requires us to lay down the burden of the past to heal the wounds of division, and to build bridges of trust and mutual respect,” Ameyu said.
He urged the citizens to dropped all forms of divisions that leads to hatred.
Easter is one of the central holidays, or Holy Days, of Christianity. It Honors the Resurrection of Jesus three days after His death by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Easter is the joyful conclusion to the Lenten season of devoted prayer, fasting, and penitence.
