Intrepid South Sudan has condemned the recent attack in Bioth-agany where 13 people were killed and dozens injured in a violent dispute over a fishing ground.

The incident which occured on Wednesday left 13 people dead from Ayual and Hol communities.

Bol Deng Bol, the Executive Director of Intrepid South Sudan, strongly condemned the violence.

” This unfortunate incident has claimed over fourteen (14) lives, injured more than a dozen while several others are missing from the scene. Firstly, we would like to offer our condolences to the bereaving families and wish quick recovery to the injured,” Bol said in a statement seen by Nile Witness.

Bol called on both communities to cease violence and use dialogue to find peaceful resolutions.

“We believe that it is a build up from the previous incidences that happened in the same location by the same communities involved today,” he said.

“We are urging the communities involved to stop fighting immediately and instead consider exploiting indigenous means of dispute resolutions, long-build in their respective good cultural norms and practices. Violence should never be an option in all circumstances, including in this particular conflict,” he added.

He also citicized Jonglei state government for failing to resolve the disputes early on after taking the responsibility.

He challenged Governor Riek Gai Kok and concerned Members of Parliament to act urgently to bring the issue to an end.

It is suspected that the attack may be linked to the unresolved death of Deng Dau, also known as Deng Moradong, a popular Twic East wrestler who was killed in October 2023.

His death was allegedly connected to armed youth from Duk County, which fueled tensions between the two communities.
