President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel on Wednesday to strengthen diplomatic and developmental relations between the two nations.

The high-level meeting, held at the State House, signals a renewed effort by South Sudan to solidify its global partnerships and secure vital support for its development agenda.

The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations across several key sectors, including energy, agriculture, healthcare, security, and water resource management.

President Kiir’s commitment to strengthening these ties was reaffirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Monday Semaya Kumba, in a statement after the meeting, noting South Sudan’s deep appreciation for Israel’s longstanding support, which dates back to the country’s liberation struggle.

In a move to attract foreign investment, South Sudan’s government presented Israel with new opportunities in the oil and gas industry, minerals, agriculture, and water resource management.

According to the office of the president the two nations also solidified their cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to promote effective coordination on matters of shared interest.

For her part Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Haskel described her visit as a reflection of the “friendship and solidarity” between South Sudan and Israel.

To demonstrate this commitment, she announced a new humanitarian aid package consisting of food supplies and medical equipment to support ongoing relief efforts in the country.

This visit is seen by authorities as a crucial step forward in expanding South Sudan’s international relations and securing the necessary support to drive its development forward.
