President Salva Kiir has removed top opposition members from the National Parliament as well as other institutions.

On Wednesday the president issued a series of decrees targeting the allies of the opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Dr. Machar, who is the Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) was put under house arrest in March this year.

This prompted some of his members, including the deputy speaker of the parliament, to flee the country to an unknown location due to fear.

However, the president’s decree on Wednesday revoked the appointment of members of parliament, particularly those who ran to the best and those still supporting Dr. Machar.

Those top Dr. Machar’s allies whose appointments were revoked were believed to be opposing the current SPLM-IO interim leadership under Stephen Par Kuol.

Below is the list of those SPLM-IO officials whose appointments were revoked from the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).

Oyet Nathanial
He was revoked from being the First Deputy Speaker of TNLA.

Oyet is the acting chairperson of the SPLM-IO, who ran immediately after the arrest of Dr. Machar. He opposed the current Stephen Par Koul and once dismissed him from the party.

He has been issuing a lot of statements condemning President Kiir.

Deng Deng Akon
He was revoked from being the speaker of the Council of State.

Deng is a close ally to Dr. Machar. He rebelled with him in 1991 and 2013, as well as 2016.

He has been a right and trusted party official for Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Faruk Gatkuoth,
He was in charge and a leader of all the SPLM-IO members in the National Parliament.

Regina Joseph Kaba
This is the secretary general of the SPLM-IO who left the country after Dr. Machar was arrested.

Gai Luk and Joel Nhonoy
These are MPs who have been online worrying about Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

They have been complaining for the release of Dr. Machar online.

All the above SPLM-IO were removed from parliament while campaigning for the release of Dr. Machar as well as respect for the 2018 peace agreement.

However, the Ter Manyang, a civil society activist, condemned the removal of Dr. Machar’s supporters from the government.

He called on the president to reconsider his decrees in order to ease implementation of the 2018 peace agreement.
