Commissioner of Police in Lakes State Maj. Gen. Chol Atem Jongngeth confirmed the incident that the deceased mishandled the grenade.

“The injured were 3 soldiers and only himself has died as a result of his own incident”, said Gen Atem.

He said the deceased’s intention was throwing it to the police or military soldiers who were sent to bring him for investigation.

Gen Atem further confirmed that he was under investigation for adultery.

“So, he was wanted by the police for investigation over the matter of that incident, the message is this, those who are not trained with this weapon, so they are supposed to respect this weapon. They should not attempt to have them while they don’t have experienced particularly this hand grenades “. He said

CEPO coordinator in Lakes State Daniel Laat Kon condemned the incident and urge soldiers to be vigilant terming an unfortunate situation.

“When you look into such cases. It is not really good to take the life of other people”, If someone might have committed a crime to you like adultery or whatever that you need a person than it is better you follow a due process of law by going to the court through public prosecutor attorney ( PPA) will take warrant of arrest and all the due process will be followed and you will get your right”. He said.

He said some of this incident involved depression because people are so mentally affected by the economic situation and the hardship and alot of problem.

” We are really urging the community at least to come into their senses on how to address this issues in a peaceful way either in a dialogue or go to the court such that you get your own right and this is a call that we need to make on that incident that happened in Rumbek East county specially on the hand grenades.” He added.

He urges the soldiers start to take care of their hand grenades because you should not use grenades to kill people and to the government particularly to the leadership of the organized forces is that grenade should be allowed to go home with soldiers.

He said anybody who is not on duty should not carry any arm or AK-47 and that all these should be left in where they can be stored and when you are on duty this is when you can be given these weapons for protection and this is a call I wanted to make
