President Salva Kiir Mayardit today swore in a group of newly appointed government officials, tasking them to prioritize dedicated public service, institutional reform, and community reconciliation.

The officials took their oath of office in a ceremony administered by Chief Justice Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng at State House J1 on Wednesday.

The new appointees are: Dr. Joseph Geng Akec, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mary Nawai Martin, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Sherif Daniel Sherif, Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal State and Sarah Peter Nyot, Counsel General in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Addressing the new officials shortly after their swearin-in President Kiir issued specific directives to the new subordinates, emphasizing the need for immediate action and tangible results.

He instructed the new Minister of Justice, Dr. Joseph GengAkec, to focus on delivering fair and impartial justice by reforming the justice system.

The President also singled out Sherif Daniel Sherif, the new Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal, who hails from the SPLM-IO party, urging him to make community reconciliation and the restoration of peace his top priorities to pave the way for sustainable development in the state.

Furthermore in his directives, the Head of State reminded the new officials that their positions were an opportunity to serve the public, not a personal privilege. “From today, serve the people and not yourself,” he stressed.

He called on all the newly sworn-in leaders to uphold integrity and commitment in their service, aligning with his administration’s goal of rebuilding public trust and advancing peace and development across South Sudan.
