Western Equatoria State Governor Barrister James Al Taib Berapai has expressed deep gratitude to the people of Western Equatoria and members of the SPLM for their overwhelming reception and hospitality during his first days in office, while bidding farewell to a high-level SPLM delegation that returned to Juba on Wednesday.

Speaking at Yambio Airstrip, Governor Al Taib praised the warmth shown by citizens since his arrival alongside the delegation from the SPLM General Secretariat, led by Comrade Bol Makueng Yuol, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs.

“I am extremely happy today at Yambio Airstrip after a successful stay with our comrades from Juba,” Governor Al Taib said.

“I was well received by my people here, and the four days we spent together were marked with friendship, unity, and hope. I thank Comrade Bol Makueng and his team for their time, and I wish them a safe journey as they return to report to His Excellency the President that Western Equatoria is ready to move forward hand in hand with the National Secretariat of the SPLM.” The governor added

However, Cde. Bol Makueng Yuol, in his farewell remarks, reaffirmed the SPLM’s commitment to rebuilding the party and strengthening peace in the state. He hailed the appointment of Governor Al Taib, describing it as a turning point for SPLM members in Western Equatoria.

“The people of Western Equatoria were so happy to finally have a Governor and SPLM Chairman appointed from their own land, they are thanking President Salva Kiir for entrusting Barrister James Al Taib with this responsibility. For too long, this state has suffered conflict, but now the people have pledged to work for peace, unity, and prosperity under his leadership,” Makueng noted.

Makueng further revealed that SPLM members in the state felt “like orphans” in the past but are now hopeful for renewed leadership. He also praised the peaceful

cooperation of SPLM-IO members in the state, saying their readiness to work with SPLM for peace was a positive sign for stability in the region.

On his part, Governor Al Taib assured both the party and the public of his commitment to inclusivity, peace building, and development.

“We will work and cooperate with everybody, regardless of background, to unite Western Equatoria. Together, we will build stability, prosperity, and steady delivery for our people,” he affirmed.

The farewell marked the conclusion of a four-day mission in Yambio by the SPLM delegation, which was widely celebrated as a symbol of unity and reconciliation. With the Governor’s promise of cooperation and the delegation’s strong message of peace, Western Equatoria looks set to embark on a renewed journey of rebuilding trust and fostering development.
