At least nine young entrepreneurs from Northern Bahr el Ghazal State were injured and an unspecified amount of money looted when armed assailants attacked their residence in Bor on September 12, officials have confirmed.
According to George Atem, Chairperson of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Youth Union, the attackers stormed the compound at night, shooting at the gate before forcing their way in.
“They beat up the young men and looted money along with other valuables, including items for sale. Nine of them sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment,” Atemsaid.
He condemned the attack, describing it as an act of brutality driven by “hatred, prejudice, and ignorance.” Atem further urged the governments of Jonglei and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states to work together to ensure the perpetrators face justice.
“I cannot specify the exact amount of money stolen, but the victims were business people who lost both cash and goods. The two state governments should sit down and address this matter to bring those responsible to book,” he added.
Jonglei State Police Spokesperson, Maj. Akech Mapiou, confirmed the incident and said a joint security operation is underway to track down the suspects.
“Yes, it is true the incident happened on September 12. The joint forces are currently pursuing the individuals behind it,” Mapioustated.
