Authorities from Jonglei state are set to launch an infrastructure developmental program in Jonglei state.
The development project comes following a briefing from the World Food Programme(WFP) Bor Field Office and its subcontractors on the roll-out of critical infrastructure projects aimed at transforming connectivity across the state on Tuesday.
The initiative, led by WFP in close partnership with the State Government, is scheduled to commence in mid-October 2025.
At its core, the project will focus on constructing strategic road networks linking Bor to counties across Jonglei, improving the movement of people and goods, strengthening humanitarian access, and driving local economic development.
Mr. Mohammed Satti, Head of WFP’s Bor Field Office, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the project’s success.
“We are not here as outsiders, we are one team with the Government of Jonglei State,” he said, noting that WFP’s close collaboration with both state and national authorities reflects trust and shared priorities.
However, Jonglei state governor Riek Gai Kok described the road project as a lifeline for communities.
He welcomed engineers and subcontractors, assuring that the state has secured consensus and backing from traditional leaders, women’s groups, and the White Army.
“I will personally supervise the process,” the Governor pledged. “We will recruit local field supervisors to ensure community ownership and accountability. This is not just a government project, it is a people’s project.” He added.
The infrastructure program is expected to play a pivotal role in connecting isolated communities, boosting trade, and improving humanitarian outreach across Jonglei State.
