Twic East County has received a new water pumping machine to help drain stagnant rainwater from the county headquarters in Panyagor.
This a project that officials and residents say will bring long-awaited relief to a community battered by persistent flooding.
The machine, delivered on Wednesday with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is expected to begin operations within days.
Twic East County Commissioner Juach Arok Juach said the equipment will be deployed to remove accumulated rainwater that has submerged homes, offices, and public spaces for months.
“We have received a water pumping machine today, which was donated by IOM last year but delayed due to poor road networks that made its delivery difficult. We are happy it has finally reached Twic East County, and it will help pump water out of the headquarters,” Juach said.
He noted that stagnant water had created harsh living conditions, forcing many residents to abandon their homes.
The arrival of the machine, he said, is a source of renewed hope.
“Our people have endured very difficult conditions. This machine gives us hope that normal life in Panyagor can be restored,” he added.
According to the commissioner, technicians have already been dispatched with the machine to install it, and operations are expected to commence within the next two days.
Residents of Twic East welcomed the development, saying the pump will not only help reopen access to homes, roads, and public facilities but also reduce health risks linked to waterborne diseases.
Community leaders, while celebrating the arrival of the equipment, appealed for broader support to address flooding across Jonglei State.
They emphasized the need for long-term investment in infrastructure to mitigate the recurring impact of floods.
For now, the installation of the pumping machine represents a critical step toward restoring life in Panyagor and supporting displaced families to return and rebuild their homes.
