The Government of Jonglei State, through the Bor County Commissioner’s Office, has constituted a high-level committee to open dialogue with the leadership of the Red Belt group following recent security disturbances in Bor County and Bor Town.
The formation of the committee was announced in a directive issued on September 26, 2025, under the authority of the Bor County Commissioner.
The committee is tasked with investigating the causes of hostility attributed to the Red Belt group and exploring solutions for peaceful coexistence.
The move comes in the wake of growing concerns over the activities of the Red Belt group, which authorities blame for recent violent incidents that have undermined peace and safety in Bor and its surrounding areas.
The body will be chaired by Maker Chol Adol, Member of Parliament for Bor County, with Alier Michael Maliet serving as Deputy Chairperson among other chiefs, youth leaders and Women’s Representative for Bor County.
The Commissioner’s office emphasized that the team will seek to clarify the Red Belt group’s position regarding its loyalty to the government and organized forces, while at the same time exploring avenues for peaceful coexistence.
A final report is expected to be presented to the Commissioner within two weeks.
In a statement, the Bor County Commissioner underscored the government’s commitment to restoring calm in Bor through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The establishment of the committee, he said, demonstrates the administration’s determination to protect citizens and address insecurity in a manner that promotes reconciliation and stability.
The Commissioner’s office underscored that the move is part of broader efforts to restore calm and stability in Bor County following violent incidents linked to the group.
“The government remains committed to protecting citizens and addressing security concerns through dialogue, inclusivity, and peaceful resolution of conflicts,” commissioner Ateny stated.
The establishment of the committee reflects growing concern over the activities of the Red Belt group, which authorities say have threatened peace and security in Bor and surrounding areas.
