The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has called on traditional and opinion leaders to serve as ambassadors of peace, urging them to promote unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among communities.

The Governor made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of Chief David Deng Mayuon as the Head Chief of the newly established Kadiang Payam, held at the Jonglei State Secretariat in Bor.

“I came at a critical time, but I envision a Jonglei that is peaceful, prosperous, and united. Today, as a state government, we have demonstrated our commitment to that vision,” Dr. Riek stated.

He further urged residents of Kadiang to embrace agriculture as a foundation for local prosperity.

“Let us start cultivating and producing our own food in Kadiang the centre of our state’s food basket. This will benefit future generations and allow us to export our products across Jonglei,” the Governor said.

Describing Kadiang as “the picture of Jonglei,” he noted that it will serve as a unifying hub for all sons and daughters of the state and neighboring communities.

Dr. Riek reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to work closely with traditional authorities to tackle cattle raiding, insecurity, and other communal challenges, while unveiling bold development plans for Kadiang, including the construction of a regional airport to facilitate trade, transport, and agricultural growth.

Chief David Deng Mayuon pledged his full cooperation and loyalty to the state leadership.

“We are here to assure the Governor of our unwavering commitment. We will continue to work alongside him and support his efforts throughout his tenure,” he said.
