Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok on Friday presided over the swearing-in of Dr. Agot Alier as the new Mayor of BorMunicipal Council in a ceremony held at the State Secretariat.

Dr. Agot’s appointment, made through a gubernatorial decree on Thursday evening, sees him succeed Achiek Machar Ayuen as the head of the municipal council.

Speaking at the event, Governor Riek urged the new mayor to embrace hard work and accountability in addressing the pressing developmental gaps within Bor.

“Public service is a trust. You are taking office at a time when our administration is committed to inclusive and sustainable growth,” the governor remarked.

“Dedication and results must define your service if we are to leave behind a worthy legacy.” He said

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Agot thanked the governor for entrusting him with the role and vowed to faithfully implement the government’s reform agenda.

“With your continued support, I will carry out the responsibilities assigned to me with dedication and accountability. My focus is on serving the people of Bor with honesty and commitment,” he said.

Outgoing mayor Achiek Machar Ayuen, while handing over the office, reminded both his successor and the public that leadership positions are temporary but service to the people remains enduring.

He encouraged Dr. Agot to build on the foundation already laid for the municipality’s progress.
